John has more than 40 years of experience in the healthcare field. He has led large health systems, several hospitals and academic health science centres throughout his career. In 1999, he served as Assistant Deputy Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. He retired in 2012 after serving as the Chief Operating Officer at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, and is currently involved in consulting in the healthcare industry. He has received numerous awards including the Trudeau Medal from the University of Ottawa, The Order of the Polar Star on behalf of the King of Sweden, the Mentorship and Honorary Life member award and Distinguished Health Leader Award from the Canadian College of Health Leaders.

John leads with kindness and compassion, and would make it a point to greet all his staff by their names and ask how they were doing.
