Janet Davidson

Former Deputy Minister of Alberta Health, Experienced CEO, Order of Canada Recipient

Janet is a nationally renowned health executive with more than 40 years of experience in government, hospital and community sectors in Canada. She has previously served as deputy minister of Alberta Health, and was the official administrator for Alberta Health Services. She was awarded an honorary Doctor of Law degree from the University of Windsor, as well as the Order of Canada and has been named twice to the list of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women.

She has held several CEO positions at Nova Scotia Health Authority, Trillium Health Centre, and what was previously known as Toronto East General Hospital in Ontario. She served as the Canadian executive and industry specialist with KPMG’s Global Healthcare Practice.

She left the C-suite to become a global consultant in healthcare, and sits on several boards. She has been extensively involved in global humanitarian work and served for 10 years in a senior governance capacity with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in Geneva, as a vice president (Americas) and then as vice chair of the Standing Commission, its highest deliberative body.

Janet received her Bachelor of Nursing Science from the University of Windsor and a Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Alberta. She is a graduate of the Directors Education Program of the Institute of Corporate Directors and the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management as well as the Global Health Leadership program of the University of California, Berkeley’s School of Public Health. 

Janet is a truly aspirational leader and here are three takeaways:

  • It is important to live life to the fullest : If you want to do something, go for it and don’t wait for tomorrow or another month or year
  • It’s all about relationships : nurture your relationships with colleagues, friends and family
  • Make sure you are going to a job you want rather than getting away from a job you dislike
