Dipti Purbhoo

Executive Director, The Dorothy Ley Hospice

Dipti Purbhoo is the Executive Director at The Dorothy Ley Hospice, which offers services and programs designed to meet the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of individuals living with a life-limiting illness. She was previously Chief External Affairs Officer at March of Dimes, and Chief Operating officer at Toronto Central CCAC. She started her career as a nurse not wanting to move into management and leadership roles, and now that she is in a leadership role, she believes it’s every leaders’ responsibility to pay it forward.

Dipti believes that a leader is not about a role or a title, rather someone who is willing to push the boundaries and believes that there is always a way to make things better. Here are three takeaways:

  • It’s not about you as a leader – your job is to support others and enable others to live their potential. Lift others up in any way you can
  • Care about what you do, find that purpose, passion and burning desire to to wake up each day
  • Stop focusing on perfection – 80% is good enough because you need to start taking action
