Deborah Simon

CEO, Ontario Community Support Association (OCSA)

Deborah Simon has been the CEO of the Ontario Community Support Association since 2012. Deborah is a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Arts from York University and a MBA from Athabasca University.
Deborah polished her policy skills at the Ministry of Health, developing the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991. Government employees rarely get to see their own legislation pass, but Deborah was fortunate enough to see it through. Every time she sees a nurse practitioner who can prescribe medication, she feels proud to have contributed to that change.

Deborah has worked across the health care system, but is particularly drawn to the creativity and diversity of the home and community support sector and here are three takeaways:

  • Be confident in yourself and don’t think about the end; think about the journey to get there
  • Choose to look at the opportunities instead of the barriers and constraints in your career
  • You can affect only what you do- focus on your capabilities and opportunities
