Michelle DiEmanuele

President & CEO, Trillium Health Partners

Michelle E. DiEmanuele is President and CEO of Trillium Health Partners. She has spent her career in the public and private sectors leading large-scale change and cultural transformation. Previously, Michelle was Associate Secretary of Cabinet and Deputy Minister in the Ontario Government. During this time, she led the renewal of public services through “Service Ontario” including the introduction of the first ever “Money Back Guarantee” for government services in North America. She reformed human resources, information technology and business services for the Ontario Government. She has also served as Interim CEO at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, Assistant Deputy Minister of Health, Vice President (Branch and Small Business Banking, Retail Markets/Human Resources), CIBC and Vice President (Human Resources and Organizational Development), Brookfield Properties Ltd.

Michelle is in the Hall of Fame of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women, Top 40 under 40 and in 2012 was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Michelle was the recipient of the Order of Ontario for 2018. She dedicates her personal time to various boards and councils over the past 20 years most recently on the Hospital Working Group of the Premier’s Council on Improving Healthcare and Ending Hallway Medicine and the Toronto Police Service Transformation Task Force. She received her BA in Political Science from the University of Waterloo and her MA in Political Science from the University of Toronto. Michelle has extensive experience in driving higher levels of service, people and financial performance through effective change leadership and has worked in healthcare, justice, social services, financial and real estate sectors.

Michelle is a powerful leader who was recently appointed as top public servant in her role as cabinet secretary and head of Ontario’s Public Service (OPS), and here are three takeaways:

  • Leadership is around the decisiveness of advancing forward.
  • No choice is wrong : you never make a wrong choice, you just make a different choice.
  • Relationships are of utmost importance. Call people when you don’t need something.
